Media Institute Showcases ‘Freedom of Speech’ Original Art
As Part of 2014 Free Speech Week Celebration
Arlington, Va., Sept. 5 – Adding to the vitality of this year’s Free Speech Week (FSW) will be a series of original artwork created by noted artist Everett Spruill, founder and director of The Everett Spruill Foundation for the Arts in Orlando, Fla.
Spruill has created a series of 10 original designs for his new “Freedom of Speech” mixed-media series. Inspired by the idea “let your voice be heard,” Spruill’s work speaks vibrantly in his own mixed-media language through the use of found objects, handmade paper, fabric, and acrylics.
“Harmony and contrast are the most important qualities I want to convey,” Spruill said.
Spruill worked with The Media Institute to learn about Free Speech Week and to find inspiration for his work. The designs he created are available as originals on canvas or as prints. Greeting card versions are also available. Prints range in price from $67 to $122.
Proceeds from the “Freedom of Speech” collection will benefit The Everett Spruill Foundation for the Arts, which preserves and perpetuates the legacy of experimentation, research, and development of the art of African Americans and artists of African heritage. The Foundation supports artists’ fellowships, educational programs, special projects, exhibitions, and publications that provide access to art by African Americans.
Spruill and his artwork are featured on the Free Speech Week website at https://dev.freespeechweek.org/freedom-of-speech-mixed-media-series-by-everett-spruill/. The entire “Freedom of Speech” series can be viewed on Spruill’s website at http://everett-spruill.artistwebsites.com/art/all/freedom+of+speech+the+series/all. Orders should be placed directly with Everett Spruill through his website.
Free Speech Week will be celebrated next month from Monday, Oct. 20, through Sunday, Oct. 26. For more information about the week and how to participate, visit the FSW website at freespeechweek.org.
