2014 Free Speech Week Slated for Oct. 20 – 26

Arlington, Va., Aug. 1 – Free Speech Week (FSW) will be celebrated this fall from Monday, Oct. 20, through Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, marking its tenth year as the nation’s premier celebration of freedom of speech.

Media organizations, universities, schools, and community groups across the country are expected to conduct a wide variety of projects and events to commemorate this essential freedom.

Groups of all types are invited to join the celebration as “Partnering Organizations” on the FSW website, freespeechweek.org. There is no registration fee. The FSW site also includes ideas on how to celebrate and information about current and prior years’ activities.

Free Speech Week is intended to be a unifying celebration of speech freedoms, bringing people together regardless of politics or ideology. Its goal is to raise public awareness of First Amendment rights, rather than advance any political or policy agenda.

For more information, follow FSW on Twitter @Freespeechweek, join the discussion on FSW’s Facebook page, and find the latest information on the FSW website.

Now a free-standing event, Free Speech Week was created in 2005 by The Media Institute, which continues to promote FSW and to manage its website.
